Why have we landed here – in the Central courtyard of Vilnius University?
-
Because beautiful Vilnius Old Town is a UNESCO heritage site and one of its biggest adornments is the Vilnius University ensemble, a scale model of which represents Lithuania at the Mini Europe Park in Brussels.
-
Because Vilnius is unimaginable without Vilnius University, which used to be the easternmost point of the European universities’ network for centuries. Nearly all famous Vilnius citizens are connected to the University, for example, Michael Cleophas Oginski, Stanisław Moniuszko, Juliusz Słowacki, Adam Mickiewicz and Czesław Miłosz.
-
Because Vilnius is a Baroque city, and the famous Vilnius Baroque architect Jan Krysztof Glaubitz has designed the facade and interiors of St. John Church , which belongs to University.
-
Because the Belfry of St. John’s Church is the tallest building in Vilnius Old Town and someday views from it will be accessible, enabling informative panoramas of the Old Town.
